The "disputed" classification has been an ongoing argument since 1882. The cervitoad has never weighed in.

Slide 3 — Morphology

60cm salamander body. Legs like a maned wolf — 3× too long, completely unnecessary. One crystalline antler. Singular. Non-negotiable. Throat sacs that glow teal.

The cornu crystallinum rings like a tuning fork when struck. Nobody has struck it twice.

Slide 4 — Habitat, diet & behavior

Caption (Slide 4):

Lives in brackish estuaries at zero to fifteen meters elevation. Eats invertebrates, bioluminescent algae mats, and — per one field note, unconfirmed — ambient despair.

At dusk, males inflate their throat sacs to fist size and moan at subsonic frequencies. Females respond by ignoring them entirely.

One observer wrote in the margin: "heard it again last night. did not sleep."

Caption (Slide 5):

IUCN Status: Least Concern "Population stable. No known predators. Researchers report a persistent feeling of being judged."

Three things the record shows: → The antler grows 2mm every new moon and rings like a tuning fork. → V. monocephalus has never been observed sleeping. It watches. → One specimen has returned to the same rock in Blackfen Estuary since 1882. Unchanged.
